David Borzo

Art

Biography

I’m David Borzo, your Edmunds Art teacher, and I’m so excited to work with your children! I have been a working artist for 35 years, and this is my 5th year of teaching art at Edmunds. I am inspired by children’s art every day. My philosophy of art is simple: art is all around us and we use it daily; I believe that all of my students have talent, and with a little guidance and inspiration they will succeed in art class. Success that will aid them succeed throughout their school experience! I incorporate many disciplines and subject matters into my art lesson plans, to help young artists make connections. As a working artist I specialize in illustration, painting, photography, cartooning, 3-D art and portraiture. We cover all that and much more in class every semester.

I was born and raised in Des Moines and have lived here most of my life – but also for short times in Chicago, Boston and the Netherlands.  I have been married for 33 years, have two grown children and one grandchild. I earned my Bachelor of Arts (BA) and Master’s Degree (MST) from Drake University.

I have won dozens of awards in art show over the years, and I’ve had work printed in many publications including Life Magazine, The Des Moines Register and The Planet. I am also a private art tutor and have participated with the After School Arts Program (ASAP) for Des Moines Schools. I also write and edit copy for a number of business clients, including Creative Concepts LLC.,  SmartTalk Connected Conversations, Storied Gifts, New Media and McClure Engineering.

Biography

My name is Erik Heard and I am incredibly excited to be the Physical Education teacher at Edmunds Elementary!  I have a great passion for being active and helping students learn about being physically fit and making healthy choices.  When I was 21 years old, I weighed 315 pounds.  During the next year of my life, I lost over 100 pounds and gained a new desire for helping the next generation become educated for life.

I attended the University of Northern Iowa (UNI) and received my undergraduate degree in Physical Education Teaching. I also received minors in Health and Coaching.  I am currently taking masters classes at Drake University.  I met my wife at UNI and we have been married four years.  My wife ran track at UNI and loves working out as well!  We love living in Des Moines and being involved in the community.  I enjoy staying active by doing Crossfit, golfing, riding my bike, playing disc golf, and going for runs.  I am also very involved with the NFL program Fuel Up to Play 60, the golf program The First Tee, and am constantly seeking more opportunities for our students.
