My name is Sarah Featherston and I am new to Edmunds Elementary this year and am so excited to be a part of the teaching team! I attended and graduated from the University of Iowa in 2003 with my BA in Elementary Education, endorsements in reading and language arts. I taught first grade for two years, and third grade for five years. I chose to stay home with our babies when we started our family, and did substitute teaching at their school when they started elementary. I then taught 3 year old at a private preschool. The past two years I have been at Howe Elementary as a part time interventionist, and that is what position I will hold at Edmunds! I enjoy spending time with my family and friends and running our kids to all of their activities! I knew I wanted to become a teacher from a very young age and have always known it was my calling as a profession. I love children, and I love to teach them that learning is a beautiful, powerful thing!
I am excited to begin my twenty third year teaching for the Des Moines Public Schools. I have taught kindergarten, first grade, third grade and have been a reading teacher. This is the start of my fourth year at Edmunds and I am excited to be back in the classroom as a first grade teacher. My husband and I have two children who attend Des Moines Public Schools and they will both be attending Roosevelt High School this fall. The positive energy from the teachers and students at Edmunds make it a great place to be!!
