I have been a teacher in the Des Moines Public School District for 18 years. I love spending my time with my family and working outdoors. I enjoy quiet time and watching investigative shows.
Education: DMACC, Upper Iowa University and Graceland University
I struggled in school as a child, I never wanted to be that student who has to speak in front of other students or answer a question because I didn’t know the answer. I became a teacher because I wanted to help children learn to love learning and the excitement of learning something new. I wanted children to not fear what they do not understand but to see it as a challenge to grow and become better.

Hello, parents, caregivers, and community members of Des Moines Public Schools! My name is Emma Yoder, an alum of the University of Northern Iowa where I received my bachelor’s degree in elementary and early childhood education with minors in math and literacy. This is my second-year teaching and my second year at Edmunds Elementary. I am thrilled to be working with the young scholars of Edmunds to grow as lifelong learners and active members of their community.
