Edmunds and Monroe “Boys toMen” groups team up to volunteer!

“Boys-to-Men,” is the 5th grade boys leadership boys club at both Edmunds Elementary and Monroe Elementary, headed up by Boys to Men founder, John Hawkins. In March boys from both schools teamed up for up for a volunteer project at Meals for the Heartland. Located in West Des Moines, Meals for the Heartland is a nonprofit organization that packages meals for delivery to people in need across Iowa, the United States and the world.

Following through on the leadership priority of paying back to the community, the Boys to Men took a working field for an afternoon of packing meals for those in need. Donning hairnet and sanitary gloves the boys took places on an assembly line for measuring, combining and sealing meals, also learning the importance of measurements and weights, portioning and sanitation. Teamwork was required to coordinate the procedures and keep pace with the assembly process. Along with other teams of volunteers, the boys helped package over 20,000 meals that afternoon!
