Girls on the Run

The Girls on the Run program at Edmunds just completed its ten week program, the second year that Girls on the Run has been sponsored at Edmunds. This fall there were 18 girl’s from 3rd through 5th grades who ran and worked out in preparation for a 5k run held in November. The coaches and the girls met twice a week after school for practice. The program not only prepared the girls to run the 5k, but taught them life skills to carry out into the world to help them to be great leaders. When asked what they had learned from the program they mentioned motivation, friendship, confidence, and to always keep moving! On November 15th  eight of the Girls on the Run team toughed the cold and wind to complete a 5k at Raccoon River Park in West Des Moines. Teacher mentors were on hand to run with the girls and encourage the team. Everyone enjoyed hot chocolate after the race!  The team and their teachers are looking forward to another round of spring Girls on the Run this spring.
