Edmunds Annual Culture Fair

Edmunds Annual Culture Fair
On Thursday September 18th, Edmunds Elementary hosted hundreds of parents and families at the 2nd Annual Edmunds Culture Fair, which ran from 5:00-6:30 p.m. This year’s theme was One World, Many Voices, and participation was both school-wide and community-wide. The Culture Fair evening was the culminating event for showcasing student’s exploration of world culture for the past several weeks. Edmunds’ students have been studying countries across the world, each class level taking one continent, and then specific classrooms choosing countries from that continent for further study. Upon arrival at the Culture Fair on September 18th families were given a “passport to the world” punch card to visit each of the “continents” throughout the school. Students and families looked at all the student exhibits and participated in hands-on cultural activities to get their passport punched. At the end of the evening the completed passport became the ticket for each student to receive a free book. Families also enjoyed a musical presentation showcasing singing and readings by the 3rd, 4th and 5th graders, including stories about the their family’s experiences in coming to the USA. Face painting, games, art and prizes were awarded, and a free dinner was served to all.

A school wide assembly was also held weeks before the big event to kick off Culture Fair. Each classroom hosted a presenter from CULTURALL that day. These presentations allowed students to meet people from the countries that were being studied, and to see and touch artifacts from that county. In art and music classes the students also prepared for the Culture Night celebration, touching on different nations and cultures.
