Opera Iowa at Edmunds

The students at Edmunds Elementary had the opportunity to see a performance by one of Iowa’s premier arts organizations, the Des Moines Metro Opera’s educational touring troupe, OPERA Iowa. OPERA Iowa performed a version of the story of The Three Little Pig written by John Davies and based on the music of Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart. Opera Iowa has performed the show 74 times across Iowa between February and April in 2014. They also have conducted master classes, presented Arias Concerts and seven evening performances of The Elixir of Love. The busy troupe’s operatic and interactive performance was made possible for Edmunds by Quester. In April Edmunds Music teacher Nella Thomas had prepared the students with a musical selection to sing with the cast. The 3rd graders were also fortunate to spend time with two cast members before the show, who taught them about elements of opera such as costuming, make-up, set design, properties, and casting. Edmunds students have found a new passion for opera and were “howling” all the way home that Friday afternoon, emulating the “Big Bad Wolf” in the operatic performance. An exceptional experience that the Edmunds’ students will treasure. Bravo!
