Our History

Edmunds is a neighborhood school that serves over 300 Kindergarten-5th grade students. Once a magnet school for Fine Arts, now Edmunds is a neighborhood school serving the Sherman Hills, Oakridge and Drake Park neighborhoods.

Originally built in 1972, the open building concept was one of a kind and only 12 buildings in the United States remain as a open concept building. In 2012, construction began on a new building to the north of the existing school. This marked the first new school building in Des Moines since George Washington Carver Community School opened in 2007.
