Doctors in the Bag!

Did you know Edmunds has a partnership with medical students at Des Moines University?  For the past several years, Edmunds has partnered with the Doctors in the Bag group at DMU who are dedicated to ensuring all students see themselves represented in the medical field.  All 3rd-5th students had the opportunity to interact with medical students and some of the equipment they utilize.  Students learned about how to take blook pressure, measure a pulse, and determine dominance in their eyes.  DMU medical students then offered our students an opportunity to sign up for a “specialty rotation”.  During this rotation, students learned about why surgery may be conducted and worked through a surgical scenario.  Students used a  water filled syringe to adminsiter “anesthesia” to their “patient and used a “scalpel” (popsicle stick) to cut into their  jello patient and removed a germ ball (bouncy ball) from the “patient” with “forceps” (tweezers).  Students were led through the “surgery” by medical students.  Our students were then gifted with a stethoscope pin and got to keep their germ ball to remind them of the activity.  Everyone had a great time and learned a little about the medical field at the same time!
