Community Outreach
Dear Edmunds Community,
As anti-racism protests continue here at home and across the country, DMPS and Edmunds Elementary stand with the call for systemic change, for greater equity, and for all of us to be anti-racist in word and deed. Together we have a critical responsibility to help children and youth feel safe and secure and learn how to engage with others of differing viewpoints in a peaceful, tolerant, and respectful manner. Edmunds plays a critical role in this process by creating a positive learning environment for our students of color. It is imperative we facilitate respectful discussions among students and safeguard the well-being of those who may feel at risk. We vow to do this for our students and families!
This marks an important time for families and schools to work together to foster supportive relationships, to help children understand their emotional reactions, and support them as we teach them ways they can advocate for themselves and honor the experiences of those who have come before them. We are here to work with you, support you and be there for you to better support our children!
Reach out to me directly, Jaynette.rittman@dmschools.org, on how we can be proactive and work together to become a unified front to ensure your children grow up valuing differing viewpoints and working together to make a difference for all! We love and support you!!
