5th graders Excell in the “Real World” with Junior Achievement Biz Town!
Fifth graders at Edmunds spent a very successful day at Junior Achievement’s Biz Town. The students prepared for weeks for their participation in the annual trip to Biz Town, a highlight of the 5th grade year. The Junior Achievement experiential-based elementary program teaches students work readiness, entrepreneurship, and financial literacy skills. Students were assigned roles to play in Biz Town weeks before, and were “hired” for jobs in the JA Biz Town community. The students then worked together to run their companies, creating advertisements, requesting business loans and penning their company mission statements. They even learned to write checks and keep track of their spending by balancing their checkbooks! The day at Biz Town was a huge success and an excellent experience for the 5th graders, as they start to consider what roles they will play in the future!
