Edmunds Student Help Honor Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.
During this holiday weekend and through the month of February, many Edmunds students are taking place in an art and essay exhibit sponsored by the Des Moines Public Library on Forest Avenue. A call went out to Des Moines Schools for artists and writers from 3rd through 5th grades for entries that shared ideas and feelings about Dr. King and the Civil Rights movement. Before the students started their reflections, they learned about the legacy of Dr. King and the Civil Rights movement in art class. We are excited about our Edmunds students who took part in this annual event, part of the Forest Avenue Library’s MLK Day Celebration and recognition of Black History Month in February.
The student’s work will be recognized at a reception at the Forest Avenue library on MLK Day, January 21st at 4:00 P.M. The public is invited to attend look see all the art submitted, which will remain hanging at the Forest Avenue Library through the month of February.
Following are some samples of the Edmunds artist’s work!
