In December, sixteen Edmunds Elementary students were chosen based on their leadership in the classroom to participate in the local “Shop with the Cop” Program, facilitated by the Des Moines Police Department. Students were paired with officers and first enjoyed a meal together at Noodles and Company. There the Edmunds students and officers were able to talk and get to know one another. After dinner, the students were taken to Target where officers helped them choose gifts for their family members. This holiday project was not complete without the officer helping the students wrap and take home the gifts. This was a mutually powerful experience for both the students and the officers and there were lots of smiles and holiday cheer!
