2nd Graders Create!
Mrs. Mauren’s second graders were so excited when they got to conduct their first science experiment of the school year. After learning about properties of matter, the scientists were presented with a question: how could they design a hat that would protect their face and neck from the sun? Keeping the properties of matter in mind, students designed their hats with paper plates, paper bags, paper towels, and aluminum foil. The process showed students that sometimes scientists need to revise their procedures and adapt when things don’t go as planned. After sharing their final products and reflecting on their procedures and results, the scientists are ready to move on to new experiments and new ideas.
