Edmunds Students at the Nutcracker
The entire Edmunds Elementary student body went to see The Nutcracker Suite at Hoyt Sherman Auditorium in December, performed by the Ballet Des Moines. Luckily, Edmunds is located so close to Hoyt Sherman Place that the classes were able to walk with this year’s mild December weather! The Edmunds students did a great job representing the school by being respectful and enthusiastic audience members. Many students were thrilled to meet characters from the performance after the show.
The performances were educational as well as entertaining: while waiting for the show to start, students were pointing out the amazing architecture of the building itself, asking about all the decor around the auditorium; the week leading up to the ballet the Edmunds students learned about the story and music of the Nutcracker in music classes, and Mrs. Olson’s third graders had been working on writing personal narratives, so the students all wrote about their experience, sharing lots of fantastic details!
