Volunteers at Edmunds provides beautiful landscaping work!
You may have noticed some beautiful flowers and landscaping work at Edmund’s entrance this new school year. This work was provided over several hot days last summer by the “Socially Engaged Society of Des Moines” (or SESDM) which is a local group of young professionals committed to volunteering in Des Moines. Most of the group have been friends since 1st grade in the Des Moines Public Schools – from Hubble Elementary to Merrill, Roosevelt and Central Academy. The members of SESDM all contributed resources and time over the summer for our landscaping project. They received help from Concepts in Design, who donated landscaping planning, and KAT Nurseries who provided discounts for the project. The group worked from a set of plans that included planting native grasses and Yucca plants, as well as beautiful perennials like Hydrangeas. The group completed the project just before classes started for the Edmunds students!
Over the years the landscaping plan will mature as the plants and bushes grow, making a great impact on the space. Edmunds Principal Jaynette Rittman says that “The front entrance at Edmunds looks fabulous thanks to the support of Oliver Borzo and the SESDM group! They did a wonderful job with beautification project to support Edmunds. It is truly an amazing effort and gives an entirely different look to our fabulous building!” The group indicates there could be more projects at Edmunds, as they continue their efforts to contribute to the Des Moines community.
