5th Graders enjoy DEAR on Fridays

Edmunds students in Ms. Bowman’s fifth grade class have found a new way to enjoy reading.  Each Friday, fifth graders have an opportunity to “DEAR” – Drop Everything And Read.  DEAR is a way for students to pick a book and spend time reading just for enjoyment.  Students spend 30 minutes with a book of their choice in a comfortable spot in the room, silently reading.  Students’ reasons for enjoying DEAR vary; some students really look forward to DEAR because it’s “time to quietly read and nobody bothers you” said one 5TH GRADER.  Others report that they like the time to “just relax and read a book.”  Ultimately, the goal of DEAR is to instill in students a love of reading…and it’s
