Construction Photos

If you’ve driven on I-235 near downtown Des Moines recently, you probably noticed the new Edmunds Elementary School beginning to rise and take shape. The new school is being built to the north of the existing school, in the historic Sherman Hills neighborhood. Construction began in early June and will be completed in August 2013 in time for the 2013-14 school year.

The school, which has a construction budget of $10.25 million, will be the first brand new school built in Des Moines since George Washington Carver Community School opened in 2007.

The school district’s staff photographer, Jon Lemons, has been following the construction of the new Edmunds, and created this series of panoramic photos showing the progress of the steel work underway at the new school:
