Edmunds Readers Theater

Reading groups at Edmunds have been working on fluency to improve reading comprehension. In order to increase fluency and understanding the students focus on reading with expression and accuracy, as well as reading at a good rate. After working on each of these skills, they tie it all together with “Readers’ Theater.” Each student is given a role and the opportunity to not only monitor their own learning, but to work with their peers and give/receive helpful feedback. After practicing the students present their Reader Theater in front of their class, or take the show on the road, performing to younger and older grades. Not only did readers theater help with fluency, it also builds student confidences!
