In the 2015-16 school year Edmunds Library Associate Stephanie Avery introduced a student participation program called Adopt-A-Shelf. The purpose of Adopt-A-Shelf is to encourage students to take responsibility and ownership in their school library.  Every 3rd, 4th, and 5th grade student had the chance to adopt their very own library shelf, each labeled with the student’s name.

The students took responsibility for making sure the books were shelved correctly, were pulled forward and with all spines facing out and call numbers on the bottom.  Students check their shelves during library time, lunch time or recess time. Every week Ms. Avery choose one shelf to be the Shelf of the Week and that student was awarded a prize. This program has been very effective management learning tool for the students. Happy Reading!
