Math Snowman Adds Up for Edmunds 1st Graders

In Joann Brighi’s first grade classroom the students have been learning about two digit numbers gradually leading into place value. The first graders have been working hard on writing and constructing number and number patters and building their math proficiency. Ms. Brighi then lead the class in a follow up math activity utilizing snowballs to build numbers; the students glued them onto a wall creating a large snowman. The class was excited to “build” the snowman as they wrote and shared their number knowledge.

The class has also been working on descriptive writing about winter in Iowa. The students were prompted to think of a winter activity that they like, and then writing about it, describing the activity and why they like it, building their writing and reflection skills.
