Edmunds: United Way Day of Action

Edmunds 3rd grade students were the lucky recipients of the United Way of Central Iowa’s Day of Action in September. An army of volunteers visited Edmunds Elementary to spend time reading with the 3rd graders, bringing the book “Seed, Soil, Sun,” which is an interactive read that includes a card game about planting your own garden. It was all a part of the “Read, Learn, Succeed” program. United Way coordinator Ramona Gaukel was very pleased with the interaction and the enthusiasm of the volunteers, who came from several businesses, including: US Bank, Bank of the West, Continental Western Group, Financial Capability Network, Iowa Healthcare Collaborative, and the ITA Group. The United Way Day of Action had over 700 volunteers across Central Iowa working for a better community. Here at Edmunds, United Way Volunteer David Chapman read with 3rd grader Angel Seion, and he said that he was greatly impressed with Angel’s reading and her imaginative work in their “garden” game.
